Why do Coaches need to continuously develop themselves?

Did you know that you can become a coach without ANY qualifications, accreditations or certifications at all? 

At Paseda360 we find that a scary thought. There are thousands of coaches out there with very little idea of how to do the right thing for their clients. 

We feel that coaching is a profession that requires constant learning and professional development. It is not enough for coaches to simply rely on their existing knowledge and skills. To be effective, and to take the best care of their clients, coaches must continually update their knowledge, skills, and techniques to keep up with changes in the field, improve their performance, and provide better services to their clients. 

In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of continual learning and professional development for coaches.  

Continual Learning and Professional Development Keep Coaches Relevant

The coaching field is constantly evolving, with new trends, technologies, and best practices emerging all the time. Here at Paseda360 for example, we are bucking the trends and bringing coach training into this century by showing coaches how to work across the whole coaching spectrum.

And, moreover these days coaches need to be expert observers, have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and be able to connect the challenges of today, with the events of the past. 

Continual learning and professional development provide coaches with opportunities to enhance these skills and develop new ones. For example, coaches can attend training sessions and workshops to learn new coaching techniques, practise in a safe environment, and hone their skills, before trying techniques with clients.

Continual Learning and Professional Development Build Credibility and Trust

Continual learning and professional development also help coaches build credibility and trust with clients. Clients want to work with coaches who are knowledgeable, experienced, and up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in the field.  

Would you put your life in the hands of a coach with no formal training? Or one that hadn’t done any training since they were first certified ten-years ago? Probably not. 

By continually learning and developing their skills, coaches can demonstrate their commitment to their profession and their clients. This, in turn, helps build trust and credibility with clients, leading to better client relationships and more successful outcomes.

Continual Learning and Professional Development Foster Personal Growth and Fulfillment

Finally, continual learning and professional development help coaches grow and develop as individuals. Coaching is a profession that is deeply tied to personal growth and fulfillment. By continually learning and developing their skills, coaches can expand their knowledge and understanding of the world, develop new perspectives and insights, and become more self-aware. This can lead to personal growth and fulfillment, as well as a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life.

Coaches are not robots, so they also have layers of memories, thoughts, behaviours, and feelings that need to be tackled on an ongoing basis.
