3 Important Lessons For Coaches In 2023
By Angela Cox, last updated February 12, 2024

As another year draws to a close, a new year full of endless possibilities lies ahead.

January is a fantastic time to start planning and making changes. It’s a time to reflect, shake things up, and make improvements to ensure that the upcoming year is as successful as possible.

In regards to the coaching industry, 2023 looks like it’s going to be super exciting but also full of challenges.

A lot is going on economically and to make sure that your 2023 is as successful as possible there are a few things you need to be aware of as a coach.

1. Clients Are Looking For More

Your clients want more from a coach. They don’t want to work with loads of people, they want one key person that understands and supports them with everything from the past, the present and into the future.

Because 2023 is set to be a tough one, they’ll need as much extra support and guidance as they can get as they face the struggles of the upcoming year. If you give more then you’ll get more. Your clients will have higher expectations this year, they want results, so you’ve got to make sure that you have the skills to deliver.

Your clients don’t want a therapist for the past and multiple coaches for different things, they want visible results and reliable support throughout all areas of their lives. If you can provide guidance and support in all areas of life with one sound support package, then your clients will thank you for it and your coaching business will go from strength to strength.

2. Clients Are Going To Be Cash Conscious – But That’s a Good Thing…

Times are tough for many at the moment, businesses and individuals are really feeling the cost of living crisis. Everything’s gone up in price and it’s making people more cautious with their money and more conscious about where they spend it.

How is this a good thing for you? Because it means the people looking for coaching are the ones who get it. The serious clients, the ones you can do incredible work with.

The right people will understand the importance of coaching through tougher times. But you have to make sure your messaging and marketing is right to catch the attention of the right kinds of client.

Hone your messaging, define your offering and you’ll find yourself attracting some incredible clients.

It’s also a time in which you can make a big impact. Most people go into coaching because they want to help people. They want to leave their mark on the world and assist others in achieving their dreams. People will need support throughout the turbulent year ahead and you can be the one who gives them what they need to ensure they succeed.

3. Times Are Changing, Especially In The Coaching World

The most important thing to remember is that coaching is changing. If you move and work with this change then you’ll reap the benefits. Stay in one place with a mediocre model and you’re going to become obsolete.

Did you know that most coach training relies on thinking from the 1970s and the 1980s? That’s nearly 50 years out of date!

Just think of all of the things that have changed in the last 50 years and you’ll understand just how woefully inadequate that training manual is!

We don’t rely on technology from this era – can you imagine if we did? The internet dial-up alone would drive us all crazy! Everything would be slow, clunky and sluggish – this is not what you want to be known as.

And yet, the coaching industry churns out training packed with Grow Model, Smart Objectives and insists on coaching being a non-directive activity. There is a better way.

Times have changed and we’re all the better for it. Research has continued and we have a much deeper understanding of basic human behaviour.

This knowledge adds significantly to how we can approach training techniques and coaching.

Many coaches have started to develop innovative and highly effective methods to make sure that their clients are getting the most out of training sessions. Coaches such as Paseda360.

As time goes by it will be a case of grow or die. You can either develop and learn new ways or get left behind.

Allocate some of your resources and time to developing your practice and choose CPD training carefully to make sure you stand out for all the right reasons.
